Initially situated at Janpath Barracks, it later relocated to its current location in Old Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi. Presently, Sindhu Bhawan serves as a vibrant center for a variety of programs and activities, including social, religious, cultural, and patriotic events held regularly. The term “Sindhi” originates from the Sanskrit word ‘Sindhu’, denoting the Indus River in ancient times. The Sindh region holds significant historical importance, being an integral part of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, among the earliest urban civilizations globally. Sindhis primarily hail from the Sindh region, situated in present-day Pakistan and northwest India. Following the partition in 1947, many Sindhis migrated to India in 1947 and settled in different parts of India. The history of the Sindhi people is rich and diverse, with influences from various cultures and civilizations. Some of our festivals include Chaliya Sahib, one of our biggest festivals, where we worship Jhulelal or Varun (the Water God). We also celebrate teejri similar to karva chauth, in September, we celebrate Mahalakshmi ka Sagra for the goddess of wealth and in August we celebrate Thadadi, when mothers pray for their children. As a deeply religious community, we hold profound respect for all faiths.
